Byzantine musicology, the term <strong>Byzantine Echoi<\/strong> refers to the eight-mode modal system known as the <strong>Octoechos<\/strong>, which structures melodic behavior, tonal centers, and modal relationships in Byzantine chant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Octoechos system is inherently microtonal, as it is based on unequal pitch intervals and modal genera that differ from Western equal
